Data Privacy, Standards Compliance and Security is a paramount concern for SWEAP. Below is documentation on how SWEAP keeps your program’s data secure and offers resources for a successful review and approval for SWEAP usage and integration.
What Does SWEAP Do With Data Collected?
SWEAP collects data directly from students and this data is processed internally within our proprietary platform. We do not leverage outside data solutions. We do not have sub processors of data.
SWEAP collects purchase history and location information for direct contact marketing activities from our programs when they sign up and use our services; as well as utilizes third party clearinghouse services for payment processing.

Data Policy
Data Storage
Data is securely stored within a database on the SWEAP website. Backups and logs are stored with AES-256 encryption.
Data Security In Transit
Communication with SWEAP is always done via TLS/SSL connection. Connectivity to SWEAP servers for administrative purposes are done via SFTP and SSH.
Data Access
Access to program’s data requires explicit sharing enabled by an existing program data administrator from each participating program or school. This is done via the “share access” button after login.
SWEAP reserves the right to provide administrative assistance, and to deidentify and aggregate data nationally to provide statistics to all practices as a service to all participants.
Data Sharing
SWEAP does not sell information that we collect as per our privacy policy. SWEAP only works with accredited consultants to analyze deidentified data to author academic papers and presentations which we present at Social Work education conferences.
Data Retention
Please see Data Retention in our privacy policy.
SWEAP Usage Patterns
LTI v1.1 Integration
SWEAP leverages limited data from an LTI platform and supports integration to any compatible LTI 1.1 platform. We also integrate with the outcome services if setup.
SWEAP can operate with deidentified data, only storing the course/assignment names and identifier generated by the LMS system.
When setup with a key and secret, when the LTI “link” is clicked within the LMS, If the user is the following roles:
- instructor
- admin
- developer
- assistant
- staff
And the activity/assignment is not set up, the system will show a configuration screen to select which assessment is to be administered to the students.
Single Link Integration
Programs may opt for each assessment type (i.e. curriculum assessment) to have a generic link that will administrate instruments in the category. Program staff can then email this single link to their students directly in a mass email, or embed it as a conventional link in a class activity. In addition this generic link can be sent to instructors/supervisors of students in a field placement to gauge student outcomes in field placement. In this example, students will enter their email and name for tracking purposes.
Excel Spreadsheet Integration / Manual Key Entry
In this example, an excel spreadsheet containing a minimum of email address is uploaded to SWEAP or manually entered in the UI.
SWEAP will send the assessments to the participants directly. SWEAP retains names and emails.
Deidentified Workflow
SWEAP’s platform supports completely deidentified administration on most instruments by tracking who is assigned to each assessment outside of SWEAP.
The program assumes email/communication with the participants. No emails or names are stored within SWEAP.
Accessibility Standards
SWEAP from its beginning has utilized guidelines issued by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) to implement functional improvements to Fool.com. We are working to ensure that all content on the SWEAP website meet the Level AA Success Criteria set forth in WCAG 2.0.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact our Digital Accessibility Coordinator at ask@sweapinstruments.org.
We run all student based data collection assessments through validation services yearly to ensure compliance, with documentation provided below for your convenience.

Our commitment to accessibility
At SWEAP, we are committed to supporting and embracing a culture of diversity and inclusion, where all colleagues and customers, including those with disabilities, can fulfil their potential.
While we strive to make SWEAP as accessible as possible and to meet the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, our administrative pages may not always pass online validation tools.
All constructive feedback regarding the accessibility or usability of our site is welcome and will be carefully considered.
